Sue, I would take heed to what Lucy has said here. This is very similar to my experience. I have also been a nervous wreck for years, and I just came to believe it was "me", and didn't associate it with all the gaslighting and more until recently. Mine has never come out, and he also managed to convince our children and some family acquaintances that I am indeed this scary nightmare of a person that I seemed to instantly become when he wanted to leave for a man.

Have as little contact with him as possible, don't ask for explanations, as you will only get more of this same crap. It's not easy to do, but you really need to just leave him behind, free yourself, and get on with your own life. I tried being "nice", being "friends", asking gently for more detailed explanations as to what went wrong, etc. for years, and all I ever got was the same stuff that you, Lucy, and others have described. Forget him, save yourself!
