June, 2013, fifteen days after celebrating our 25th wadding anniversary my husband said, "Well, sit down. I am gay." My life changed forever. I have read that the gay spouse moves forward and starts living life as he planned. The straight spouse must find a firm footing and make life anew. Those words ring true for me. Because of my husband's narcissistic fearful approach to life, I have the "opportunity" to start building a healthy life at age 70. Three years later I have moved to a new town next to my son and his family and am living in a remodeling of an older house. This experience is symbolic of my life. This whole experience is exciting, scary, overwhelming, exhausting, hopeful, interesting, dirty, messy, and an overall test of patience and positive thinking. Thank you to all occupy who share your struggles. There is strength in knowing a person is not the only one searching, trying, messing up, getting up and pushing forward. I would like to hear success stories. Is there "success"? Perhaps the lesson life teaches is that the success is in just keeping on and being kind to ourselves in the process. Peace and encouragement to my fellow adventurers. Stay STRONG!
