As far as I know semen samples are never taken from home, because semen quickly deteriorates in a matter of minutes and thus will not be much good for a lab test. It must be fresh and immediately put in a refrigerator, unless it is going to be tested immediately.
Which is why it must be produced in the doctor's or nurse's office.

Actually JC, taking them at home is very common. See wikipedia, or many other sources on the net:
"A man may prefer to produce his sample at home rather than at the clinic. The site of semen collection does not affect the results of a semen analysis"
Or from another medical site:
"If collection is done at home, the sample should be kept next to the body during transportation"
This is quite common. All that's necessary is to return it to the lab within an hour.
