They never did school physicals where I'm from (Boston), and my mother never dragged my brother's in while I was being seen by the doctor. Once I reached 11, my mother never went into the doctor's office while the exam was going on. The doctor always called her in after to discuss things. I have my own hang-ups with doctors, I can't imagine how worse off I would be if I had to endure some of these humiliating things!

When we were younger my brother and I always had our exams together, up until he was about 12 and I was 9. After that my mother sat in, until my father took over when I was 13. Even today I have seen parents go in with their children. I don't think it is that uncommon at all.
