In reply to: Honduras 's message, "Jerry Bittle, 53; Created Comic Strip 'Shirley and Son'" on April 11, 2003 4:16:08 EDT

I called Jerry Bittle out of the blue in the mid 90's to see if he would take a look at my comic strip that I was working on. He gladly did and I met with him more than ten times over the years. He gave me good advice and I knew I could always call him.

Jerry was a friendly, funny, giving person. I can still hear him in my head interacting with his family when I was there. It pains me to think about what they are missing now that he is gone. I could tell there was alot of love there.

I believe the last time I saw them, I was showing off my new yellow VW beetle I had just bought. He was excited for me.

The last time I talked to Jerry on the phone, he told me he was doing another strip called "Shirley & Son" and that he was very busy. He said that "Geech" was now done completely in photoshop. I hope the extra workload was not part of the reason for your early departure.

I learned much from Jerry Bittle, mostly about comic strips and what it takes to do them consistantly. I guess most of all I hope that I can show as much love to my family as Jerry showed to his. It was so evident.

I miss you Jerry.
