Fae Louise Glacken, 72, a Fairfax City homemaker and retired Sears Roebuck employee whose passion for the Washington Redskins helped her win a place in the Visa Hall of Fans at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, died of congestive heart failure Oct. 29 at Inova Fairfax Hospital.

Mrs. Glacken was selected last fall as Washington's fan of the year as part of a Visa-sponsored annual contest to pick a devoted follower of each NFL team.

In her application and essay submitted for the contest, Mrs. Glacken described a vast collection of Redskin memorabilia she accumulated over the past 20 years, rummaging through Saturday morning yard sales and receiving others as gifts.

She neatly displayed the memorabilia in a house her husband built in the late 1950s. Inside, the rooms are painted the burgundy and gold colors of the Redskin uniforms. There are more than 60 autographed footballs, including signatures of every Redskin starting quarterback from Sammy Baugh to Shane Matthews, 110 autographed team mini-helmets, photographs, jerseys, Redskin insignia silverware, dishes, cups, hats and a full set of Redskins bedding.

The doorbell plays the tune, "Hail to the Redskins."

"It came to a point where every Christmas she would get some kind of Redskins gift," said her son, Bill M. Glacken. "Her best gift, the one she cherished most, was a knee brace autographed by [former Redskins offensive lineman] Joe Jacoby, not a bracelet or a piece of jewelry."

Mrs. Glacken was honored at a halftime show during a game last December between the Redskins and the Philadelphia Eagles. In August, she traveled to Canton for the induction ceremony despite her failing health. The contest winners' names, photographs and short testimonials appear in an exhibit at the Hall of Fame.

Mrs. Glacken was originally a Pittsburgh Steelers fan growing up in her native Johnstown, Pa. Moving to the Washington area in 1955, she volunteered at her children's schools in Fairfax City and began a 21-year career with Sears.

She initially worked at the Sears store in Arlington and later at the Fair Oaks location as a telephone operator in the catalogue department. She retired in the early 1980s.

In addition to her son, of Centreville, survivors include her husband of 52 years, Bill E. Glacken of Fairfax City; another son, Denny A. Glacken of Centreville; a sister; and a granddaughter.
