Rap music promoter Keneth Walker, 31, was fatally shot while sitting in his van three days after the killing of Run-DMC founder Jam Master Jay.

Waler was shot several times in the back about 3 a.m. Saturday and died three hours later at Lincoln Hospital, said police spokesman Detective Robert Price.

Police said Walker was gunned as he sat inside his yellow van, which had the names of music groups on its side but they would not confirm reports that Walker was a music promoter. No telephone number was listed for Walker, who lived in Yonkers, just north of New York City.

Detectives had no evidence to suggest Saturday's shooting was linked to Wednesday's slaying of rap icon Jason 'Jam Master Jay' Mizell, said police spokesman Sgt. Elias Nikas.

"At this time, we have no reason to believe that the two incidents are connected," Nikas said. "I don't believe they're connected to each other."

Jam Master Jay was shot by a masked gunman as he played video games Wednesday night in the lounge of his recording studio. He was 37 and left behind a wife and children.

Detectives from the NY Police Department's Gang Intelligence Unit have been interviewing people at rap concerts and events, and investigators searched the second-floor studio where the killing occurred.
