Stephen Rogers, president of The Post-Standard, died Tuesday. He was 90 and had suffered a stroke Election Day.

Rogers, who became publisher of the newspaper in 1955, oversaw its move to a new building in 1971 and guided the company from typewriters and molten lead to a computer-driven operation.

In 1934 Rogers went to work at the Detroit Times. The next year, he married Athenia Andros and went to Europe. He worked on the copy desk of the International Herald-Tribune in Paris, returning three years later to the United States, where he worked for the Newark Ledger in New Jersey and the Long Island Daily Press in New York before becoming publisher of The Post-Standard.

After Rogers took over the title of president of The Syracuse Newspapers in 1981, his son Stephen A. Rogers saw to the day-to-day operation as editor and publisher. His daughter Libby Cowan is The Post-Standard's ad services manager, and another son, Chris, is a lawyer.

Rogers is survived by his wife, children, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
