Hi Sharon,

Since Gabriel is so into flight, I have quite a few biographies on the Wright Brothers sitting around here. As a part of Learning Lanugage Arts Through Literature, Gabriel will be reading the Childhood of Famous Americans book Wilbur and Orville Wright: Young Fliers by Augusta Stevenson. I have a friend who is reading a book about the Wright Brothers that is from the Sower Series which is available from Mott Media (a homeschool publisher) and is recommended by Dr. Dobson from Focus on the Family. We also have it, but have not read it yet. It is called The Wright Brothers: They Gave Us Wings by Charles Ludwig. Both of these are regular chapter books and may be something you would want to read to Brittany depending on her reading ability. The Sower series book is definately at a high reading level with small print, but the Childhood of Famous Americans is about a third or fourth grade level with large print. Gabriel is dyslexic and is just now able to read them at 9 1/2. Another option is The Story of the Wright Brothers and Their Sister by Lois Mills which is published by Christian Liberty Press. It is about fourth grade reading level I think. The book Young Orville and Wilbur Wright: First to Fly is a Troll First-Start Biography and is a 31 page picture book. It is wonderful and is at about a second grade reading level. There is also an I Can Read book about the Wright Brothers which I believe is called First in Flight or First Flight. It is a very well loved early chapter book. I think that it is an I Can Read level 2 or 3. Gabriel read it last year and has re-read it about 3 or 4 times. It is probably 60 or so pages. I am trying to remember this from memory. If you need more details on this one I can get it for you tomorrow. It is in the boys bookself in their room and they are asleep now. Just post to me or e-mail me. Any of these should be available from Borders, Barnes and Noble, Amazon or Christian Book Distributors.

I hope that this list helps. Can you tell that Gabriel loves the Wright Brothers? He even wrote his own book about them this year called The Most Controlled and First Flight. He won fourth place for it in the 4H fair this year. He is so techinical. He told me that they were not just noted for the first flight, but the key was that they had the most controlled flight. :-)

Blessings,
Liann
