Many children do not feel the need to communicate verbally, and it is not uncommon for a child to be 3 years of age before they take this challange on. This is especially true of first borns, or siblings of a child who will do the work for them. If you are concerned, talk to your doctor.
As for your second question, all you need is the passion to committ without reservation. You already have this. You can check online with your school district to see what the state requirements are. In our state, if we've had a minimum of 2 years of college, a certified teacher supervising, or have taken a homeschool class we can proceed. I'd encourage you to do research now, ask people you know questions, check out curriculum soon. This way, you can feel prepared to take this challange on. Most curriculums that you would purchase are very clear as to what is expected. Order catalogs--they're free--and educate yourself on what's out there. This way, you'll avoid many ill-spent dollars!I wish I'd had asked around before I jumped in. Remember, what works for others may or may not be for your family. Most things can be adjusted to fit learning styles, schedules, etc.
