I have the same with my 7yr DS. Some days what works best is he goes outside and picks up a long bed of rocks. When he is done, he puts them all back. Other days he gets to dig a ditch and then cover it back up. He can then decide if he would like to come in and be cooperative. My husband told him that he will go to work to take care of his family and provide for mom to stay home and homeschool. But if he will not do school work then he can learn to labor like people who have not have the opportunity and blessing to go to school to get an education and cannot read or write. This has only happened twice. Just the reminder of "do you need to work outside?" has been effective.
