Here's something that might help. My son took a study skills class this summer (very expensive - not sure it was worth it) that taught, among other things, speed reading. One of the things that is involved with that is "talk backs". The students were taught to stop every few paragraphs and tell themselves or someone else what was the information in that part of the reading. Perhaps, instead of YOU being the one telling HIM, HE should be trying to tell YOU. Those are skills he is desperately going to need to have and you can help train him to find those facts on his own. You may need to take a break from worrying about the academics of subject matter and concentrate on teaching him study skills. He can make up the time with the increase of efficiency, once he gets that down. Just a thought!
