Hi! My husband and I are considering getting a Chinese crested and I just wanted to ask a couple of questions. I've been doing a TON of research on these beautiful doggies and feel that it would be the right dog for us. My husband suffers from SEVERE allergies to most anything with fur, and although I know that no breed is TRULY hypoallergenic, I think the crested suits our needs and comes pretty damn close. Plus they're so darn cute! I guess what I need is a little advice. We do not want to commit to a puppy that we will have to give up due to my hubby's allergies, it's just not fair to the pup to be shuffled around like that...so what we'd like to do is find someone in the Chicago area who has dogs we can meet and visit with so we can gauge what kind of reaction he will have. Most of the people I've run across in our area have been helpful, but have other animals/breeds as well, so we think it might give a "false" reading as to his reaction. I'm also wondering if fostering a crested might be a viable option too? How long do fostered animals generally stay with the foster parents? Is there usually an option to adopt? I hate to sound like we want to "test drive" a dog, but really it's a commitment we WANT to make under the proper circumstances, and we want the best possible outcome for both ourselves AND for the doggie.

Another question I have about cresteds is are they generally good with other pets? We have three birds and a ferret and I'm wondering how interaction would be (after proper socialization and supervised, of course).
