I could not help but reply to your message. I am a first time owner of a Crested Powder Puff. I have heard that some people do clip their puffs short as they tend to have fine silky hair with an undercoat that can easily mat if not brushed regularly. I am fortuanate to have a puff that doesn't mind being groomed.I have a little card table with a non skid mat on it and I brush him out every couple of days. Usually in the evening while watching TV. He stays on the table and sometimes will even fall asleep. The key is getting him used to being on a table when grooming and being gentle. My boy is not a show dog so I carefully clip out mats with embroidery scissors instead of tugging. I figure it's hair and it will grow back. The puffs have so much of it that you can't usually see it any way.I keep my PP's face and neck clipped short. They are beautiful when their coats are kept up. Hairless or coated, either way they are personality plus and absolutly wonderful. Best of luck!
