Although I do not have a Crestie at present (he loves my daughter best, so he moved in with her!), I appreciate the wisdom of those posting here, and I come to CrestCare often to read and learn. I have a VERY serious problem and I need help. We have 6 housedogs-3 pugs, an Italian Greyhound, and 2 French Bulldogs. Everyone is neutered. The female is the alpha, the other 5 are males. Our French Bulldog pup is not even a year old, but he has begun guarding certain toys from the other dogs, and has started to attack some of the other dogs-only the pugs. He gets along well with his Frenchie brother and the Ig. He will attack without obvious provocation, and he means BUSINESS.He draws blood! He has been through basic obedience class, and is the sweetest little guy with all people. I have read that dog to dog aggression usually surfaces when a pup is much older than 9 months. Our pup has been well socialized with people and neighbor dogs, etc. We are totally at a loss as to what is going on. Usually, when our dogs have been establishing their pecking order, it is mostly alot of noise and posturing, then somebody backs down. But when our Frenchie goes ballistic, there is many times absolutely NO provocation. Dog trainers' advice is conflicting as well. We are working at re-establishing ourselves as pack leaders. We give NO treats anymore, dogs must sit before being petted, we control where and how fast we walk, etc. Five of the dogs still sleep with us, but our Frenchie bully sleeps in his crate, which he does not object to. I have ordered a bunch of books on dog aggression today, as well as Cesar Milan's DVD. I have read that clicker training with treats is the worst thing you can do with a treat guarding dog-our Frenchie just finished basic obedience with this method, and is signed up for intermediate class. Please offer some advice! I need help quickly.
