I feel for you, I too have an epileptic Crestie. He has been on phenobarbitol & potassium bromide for 3 years now. Ricky suffers from cluster seizures - at his worst he would have as many as 12 siezures in a day. We have them reasonably under control now.
How often is he seizing? Are they grand mal seizures (leg paddling, salivating, urinating & defecating)? Jpw How long do the seizures last?
Your vet is absolutely right, peppers, onions, raisins, grapes, and many other human foods are not good for any dog and can be very toxic to the system. There is literature out there that links grains in food as seizure triggers as well. If your dog is eating a dog food with grains, consider switching to a grain free formula.
Also, you must be VERY careful with cleaning products. Bleach is a big trigger for Ricky. Also another big trigger for Ricky was the Glade plug-in type products. Burning candles don't bother him, but put a Glade plug in into an outlet and he'll seize every time...unsure if it's because they're right at nose level or what, but we no longer use them.
I suggest you go to www.canine-epilepsy.com there is a wealth of information there. Feel free to email me directly at crestiersq@gmail.com However, don't be discouraged if I don't answer your immediately as I also have a Puff boy who is in renal failure and we have had a setback this week, so my time on the computer right now is quite limited.
