You mentioned that you live in the South. I don't know what type of yard you have (size) but because you mentioned that you live in a rural area...Have you thought of some chickens? They do a great job with fleas and ticks. You could get a few Bantams and if you eat eggs, it's a win-win situation. Just a thought. Good luck!
