On Nov 1, 99, I ordered a new battery for my Transmonde Vivante XL from ASE Technologies, taking advantage of their sale. It arrived Nov. 3. Unfortunately I was unable to get the computer to recognize the battery. After two weeks of email messages back and forth with a delay of 3 to 4 days for a response, I found out that I had to condition the battery from the BIOS setup. Since this was the first time I had a new battery and nothing in the package told me about this need. After being informed I found a line in manual describing the procedure. It was not in the index.
After several attempts using the Battery Learning mode via the BIOS setting, I was still unable to use the battery. I received an RMA number and sent the battery back. After 2 1/2 weeks, I received a replacement. It took 2 1/2 weeks to replace the @$%^ battery.
Well after several more tries the battery and computer still did not work together. Now they want me to send both the computer and battery in for service. I keep asking them about turn around time and do not get a reply.
If it takes 4 days for them to respond to email messages and 2 1/2 weeks to exchange a battery, what kind of turn-around time can I expect? I really cannot go more than two or three days without the computer. Since Tranmonde is not selling computers, it seems that ASE is not in too much of a hurry to satisfy people who spent almost $3,000 on one of their systems.
Also, the problem started while the computer was under warranty but this slow response time has resulted in now being past the warranty period.
I mailed my request for an RMA number using their form last Tuesday, 1/4/00 and have not received the number yet!
According to the procedure to have the battery adapt to the computer all I have to do is enter the setup mode by pressing F2 when booting, then go to the exit dialog and press the Learn mode button. This has not worked after about 8 to 10 tries for each battery.
Are thee other steps needed to adapt the battery to the computer. I have great concerns sending the computer back to them for service. I cannot be without it for an extended period of time and since they will not talk to me on the phone, I have to wait several days to get any sort of email response.
Can anyone think of any alternatives? Have I missed any steps setting up the battery to work in the computer.
