- finding the jewels -- Kim Weninger, 20:46:27 11/07/09 Sat
I see I'm one of the many that came to the beatific adventures of Diana Gabaldon's romance/historical drama of Jamie and Claire late.
I happened to be home by myself one week in a winter three years ago and stumbled upon "Breath of Snow and Ashes". Amazing is all I can say. So of course I had to scrape enough money together to get all the books before I exploded from curiosity!
To date I've read them all to tatters and have not given one person these treasures to enjoy for themselves. A book is with me at all times....after all I might be able to get a paragraph in!
I am just wondering what we'll all do when the story finally ends....I imagine I'll not be the only mourner in the huge circle of followers of this heartrending story of love that crosses all boundaries.
Just a personal note from one of the many...thanks for these life changing stories!!

Thanks for the newest book... -- Karen, 15:17:00 10/09/09 Fri
I just finished reading Echo. I loved it but was so surprised when I got close to the end and realized that this was not going to be the last book. Auggggghhhh! I really want to find out how the red headed ghost (that Frank sees in the mist in Outlander) gets there.

Thanks for the Echo -- Donna Warner (Heartfilled), 10:52:14 10/08/09 Thu
I just finished reading An Echo in the Bone.....And I really want to thank you for writing what has now become my personal Standing Stone.....I had an ancestor that was in the Battle of Brandywine.....and at Valley Forge with Washington at the time that Jamie and Clar was there...And with the historical research that you do for your books...I was able to take a peek into what Johnathon See's life was like back in his day.....And for this I thank you...I am waiting on pins and needles for the next book...For the first five helped me through a very bad time in my life...
Once more...I thank you from the bottom of my Heart

The outlander series -- Tracy (happy), 10:03:34 08/07/08 Thu
I must say the books for the outlander series is the best set of books i've ever read, and i've read a fair bit. I've had to re-read them numerous times, and haven't stopped yet.
I think that this should become a movie, I Read how back in 2000 there was a possiblity of a series?
Should bring it up again!
I have to say, at the end of A Breath Of Snow And Ashes I was soooo sad to see the series end.
Well done!

Wow -- Meghan (:-) ;-) :-D), 23:06:00 07/08/08 Tue
Hello Diana, I just wanted to say that the books thus far were wonderful. My mother turned me on to the series and I fell in love with all the characters. I thought that 'A Breath of Snow and Ashes' was the last one and my husband was profoundly grateful that I might have more attention to spare him ;-). However, this evening I have found out about the 7th book to come in September 09'. He's not home from work yet but I can imagine he will be dissapointed. I belive he's a bit jealous of our red headed viking! I read all 6 books in 7 months (sooner if I hadn't had to wait on my mom to finish a couple books as I caught up to her). Anyway, this is getting too long. Just one last thing (sure you've thought about it) Jocasta Cameron seems to have a VERY interesting background, even though much is told of their past in book 6, I think a book on her adventures might be very much welcomed by your fans...just a thought! Keep doing what you're doing! You're great at it! "Cha b'e sin caora, 'se sin mo chèile a bha innte!" Hail Diana! You are brilliant! I'm also a biology teacher and botanophile and devoured all six Outlander series in 6 months of '08.
I just finished Breath of Snow and Ashes and you answered all my questions (though my imagination ranged afar...giggles!) I only have one remaining: WHO was the toe-licker at Jocasta and Duncan's wedding??
Your devoted servant,

I must have been living under a rock! -- Cathy Stanley (Thrilled), 20:13:51 05/02/08 Fri
I just found the series in February of this year and I have fallen in love with this story. Now I have never been a "romance" reader..it's always been fantasy for me. Someone suggest I try this book called Outlander because of the time travel. I thought, why not?
Wow.
The real fantasy of this story is not the time travel at all; it's Jamie and Claire. I reread it a second time before moving on to the next one. I was speechless. That does not happen that often I assure you.
I am telling everyone who will listen about your story. I've even bought multiple copies to share with family and friends. My daughter thinks I'm a geek..but she'll read them and then she'll know.
I am sorry to be rambling..but I did want to thank you for giving me something to get emotional about. I needed it.
PS You are one funny lady!

I am absolutely in love with The Outlander series. I would love to have a Jamie (or Ian) of my own. I must say that your writing is amazing and they're not something that can only be read once. The books get passed around my family; they went from my grandmother to my Aunt and mother, and now to myself.
On another note your series has inspired me to learn Gàidhlig, whether it be Irish or Scottish.

I am so in love with your wonderful story. I am an audiobook listener and from the very first words of your story read by Davina you had me hooked. I refuse to settle for abridged versions and I am having a terrible time locating an unabridged copy of "The Fiery Cross" that I can check-out, rent or buy in downloadable format but I shall persevere! uhm... or give-in and buy a copy in printed form.
*grins*
Thank you for a wonderful story!

Another CAPTIVATED reader is born... -- 123mochacharlie (Many thanks!), 16:33:25 01/21/08 Mon
I was hesitant to begin your "Outlander" series, as I couldn't imagine reading one near 1000 page book, let alone 6 with that many and more. Once I started (Nov '07), I couldn't imagine not reading them as fast as I could to get to the next book! I've read the first 4, and am in the middle of the 5th...and the 6th is eagerly awaiting me on my shelf. After browsing through numerous websites today...I now know there will be a 7th in the series. My husband and kids already think I'm nuts for reading so many books, so fast. I can't wait to tell them there's more! You've made my day.

- Dear DG, my name is Dea Vianna and I live in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Outlander series has reached me only last year, but it has taken me in its tide in the most enrapturing way. (more inside) -- dea, 07:43:56 01/09/08 Wed
I've read up to A Breath of Snow and Ashes. Though only the first three books have been released in my country (actually, Outlanders is currently out of print; Voyager was released in two volumes), I was fortunate to order all the six books of what I believed to be the main series (not counting the adventures of John Grey), in English. I’m happy and excited to know that there are two more books in the oven…
It’s said that sailors who cross the Equator Line for the first time go through a series of “rites of passage and elaborate rituals initiating them into The Solemn Mysteries of the Ancient Order of the Deep”. I don’t know if that applies to crossing the line by air or digital ways. Or to books, for that matter. All I can say is, your books have made that crossing. Not only have they taken me back with them, to unveil the solemn mysteries of my own depths, but also they have made me cross the ocean myself last year, to the British Islands, answering a call I could not resist. I said a prayer for you when I was kneeling by the Fraser’s grave, in a field of heather in bloom, tears mingling with the soft rain, taken away by the cold breeze.
I'm aware that you have probably had the same kind of emotional response to your books many times before, from varied sources. Well, allow me to get in line with those who, before me, have been marveled by the story you've been weaving.
The experience of going through long nights devouring chapter after chapter was like walking into a clearing, to realize that the path you've been walking on has widened and it's bound to take you where you're supposed to go. All the little "synchronicities", the "clicks" of pieces falling into place, long lingering doubts finally showing their true colors to the new understanding of ancient truths… All of that happening in this quite remarkable period in my life, with music and words demanding to be brought to the concrete world by my hands, my voice, my soul…
I confess I had not thought through what I was going to write to you… But now I realize the only thing I can expect to convey is gratefulness. So, thank you for the beautiful journey, which has crossed and then entwined with my own.

Captivated -- Christine H, 17:29:25 11/14/07 Wed
I am completely captivated by the Outlander series. I came across the books by accident at the book store. From the moment I started reading I was 100% hooked. The combination of history and romance the way you present it is so refreshing. I went through the entire series in 2 months, and working full time and being a mommy to 2 little ones, this is no easy accomplishment. I just could not put these books down. I am excited about starting the Lord JG books. I will try to read those a bit slower, as the new DG book is not due out until 2 years from now!!! I feel as though these characters are a part of my life, and I will continue to enjoy them for many years to come. Thank you so very much.

whear to start and what to say. i came accross outlander in our library. Have listend to what is there several times and would like to purchase a set for my home library (but they dont seem to be selling sets). :) The stories that you weave are wonderfull. Not only do they really inspire an intrest in some of the historic events in a women who used to sleep through history class, but they also remind me of my own Jamie fraiser. There are points in the telling of it all that I feel you have pushed the readers to the edge of what most would tallerate such as Jamies verry intament encounter with randall. I applaud you for it though. it makes everything more real. Some really crazy things really do hapen in life. I thank you for the enjoyment I get from reading and rereading the books. Every women should have a jamie frasier at least once in there lives.

When will the next Outlander book come out? -- Mary Ann Simpson, 14:31:56 07/21/07 Sat
Diana - I LOVE your books.
I just found the two new Lord John books being released soon. I have preordered them and can hardly wait to read them. Unfortunately, I gobble up your books so quickly and am so disappointed when I don't have a new one to read. So I have read the Outlander series three times and have listened to all the tapes/cd's, which I also love. Hearing the Scottish accent brings everything more to life.
Missed you when you were in Denver for a book signing but I did buy an autographed book.
Keep up the great stories. We all love you.

Okay, I am trying to say all this without coming off sounding like a complete dork, so bear with me. :)
JAMMF is the most true-to-life character I have ever seen. I can picture him in my head every time I start into your novels and I often "escape" to 18th Cent. Scotland and the NC mountains. You capture all the emotion, expression, and action with perfect detail. I honestly feel like a "fly on the wall" when I read these books and I am looking forward to reading A Breath of Snow and Ashes.

Hi Diana,
I want to thank you for such wonderful books. A friend of mine said I needed to read Outlander and that was years ago! I finally decided to read it and was immediately hooked. Such a compelling story that transports one. I feel as if I am a part of their story and I look forward to more!

- great books -- Barb, 16:57:22 01/06/07 Sat
Your first 3 books were given to me by my mother. She never read them as she recieved them in a box of books from her sister and hadn't gotten to them yet.She gave me the whole box.The books were in very bad shape but had all the pages. I thought they would be good as most good, well read paper back books are. When I started reading them I couldn't believe how involved I became. I read all three books in a matter of 2 weeks. I couldn't put them down. I gave them to my friend Mel to read and when she was finished we tracked down 2 more. I just finished Breath of Snow and Ashes for the 4th time. I reread these books all the time. They are the best books I have ever read. I wanted you to know how much I love these books. They make me laugh and cry, angry and sad. they are simply the best books I have ever read.

- Thank you SO much -- Rene', Wisconsin, USA, 19:12:52 12/27/06 Wed
Diana,
Thank you for the Outlander series. There are no words to convey the sheer joy I get from reading about Jamie (with whom I am head over heels in love), his lovely Claire, wee Bree, Roger Mac, Jem, Ian and the rest of the crew at Fraser's Ridge.
I just finished A Breath of Show and Ashes and clutched it to my heart. Sigh....it can't end there. We have to find out if Jamie & Claire make it back to Scotland (which I assume they do as Bree & Roger have Jem's wooden chest), did they return to the Colonies to fight? How will the story end and when they pass on, please let it be together as one cannot exist without the other.
Thank you! :)

Please let me know. I have a gift list to fill.!

Hi Diana,
Wow what can I say!!!!
I came across your books by accident CROSS STITCH (a holiday novel) in around 2003 and was immediately drawn into the stories of Jamie and Claire. I have bought them all and got ABOSAA from Amazon ordered before the release date (although I didn't read it till earlier this year). It was absolutely fabulous and I had to find out more so this year I went to Scotland for my summer holidays. I stayed in Livingstone which is outside Edinbro'(3 hr's drive from home). From there myself and my son drove to Inverness (another 3-4 hrs) and visited Drunmossie Moor I could visulise what Jamie and all the other men and women went through...we were there on a cold and wet August day so I could only imagine what it would have been like in April. I had never been interested in history before I read the books but it was very facinating to visit places where they had been (even if they weren't real people they do seem it to me You bring them to life in the books). I have now read the books some of them 4 times over and find even small details I didn't see before. I have sent the books to my friend in the South of England so that she could read them too and she is now hooked as well LOL. I bet you didn't realise what you had started when you wrote Cross Stitch (Outlander). I do have many questions but I'm sure that they will be answered in the fullness of time and I can wait as every book is like a Christmas present waiting to be unwrapped and who would want to spoil the suprise by peeping before the event ????
I just want to thank you for your books and hope to hear more from Jamie and Claire in the future ...the only thing I'm worrying about is when one or other of them dies I just can't bear the thought.
Kindest Regards
Vix x.

new fan, totally impressed -- Susie James, 07:57:27 11/01/06 Wed
Dear Diana,
I was introduced to your books by my sister in law last Christmas. I have read and bought them all since then, so I have spent the year in your amazing imagination. Thanks! After reading Outlandish Companion, I was stunned that you had never even been to Scotland before writing Outlander. What a fantastic job you did of making us feel that we were there.
I actually have been just to Edinburgh, but I Outlander to a neighbor who went to Scotland with her family every summer growing up. She said you were "dead on" about Scotland. I wanted to pass on the well deserved praise.
I also thought you might be interested in a book I have seen (from behind a glass case only) in an antique store here in Dallas. Its called The Scottish Chiefs. Its is by Jane Porter and illustrated by NC Wyeth!
Here's the thing- on the cover is a handsome man, broad of chest, head and shoulders above the others, with a long, knife edged nose and slanted blue eyes. Amazing huh? His hair is blonde but it is long and fair. I wish I could buy it and give it to you as a gift, but I haven't even got the guts to ask how much it is, yet!
Thanks for the joy your hard work has brought to so many!
Sincerely,

Jamie and Claire -- Violet, 11:38:43 07/20/06 Thu
I was watching Beauty and the Beast with my niece a few days ago, and after starting the Outlander saga again I have come to the conclusion that Jamie and Claire, in my mind, look like Belle and the Prince (after he's turned back to a man). Also, Cap. Jack Randall reminded me a bit of Gaston without so much muscle. Haha! Just thought I would share that.
BTW, I absolutely love the saga. I've spread the word and helped create Jamie and Claire fans! Yay!

WOW -- Tina, 10:46:34 06/17/06 Sat
First of all I must say that your books are the best I have ever read! When I asked my mom if she had anything I could read she gave me the German version of Outlander and I began to read...and read..and read =D I read the whole book in 2 days and continued with the second one. I bought myself all the following books and with those Jamie, Claire and all the others became a part of my life...When I finished A Breath Of Snow And Ashes I was soo sad that I cried...I couldn't stop thinking of all these wonderful characters! And of course of Jamie...<3 But anyway.. after some time I began to read Outlander again and..woah I guess I felt like Jamie when he returned to Lallybroch! It was like coming home.. Thank you sooo much for these breath-taking books!
~Christina from Germany
ps: i started to teach myself some gaelic after reading the books...;)

Awestruck -- CindyS, 17:42:14 04/25/06 Tue
Last spring I read Outlander and was left so emotionally drained that I had to go for a walk. I took me a week before I picked up another book. It seemed nothing else would compare. I continued the series and finally finished Ashes(last night-some time around midnight). I was once again left with that same awestruck feeling. Thinking this the final book I was also somewhat melancholy and couldn't help but wonder - What about Ian? What's in the letters? To hear this is not yet the end, my heart has been lifted. Thank you for enriching my literary world.

Ruined for life -- or for the time being, anyway -- Elizabeth Foote, 17:05:05 12/28/05 Wed
Diana, I want you to know that I spent all of November and the first week of December mired in your first five novels. No great hardship, since I love to read. However, it now seems that I'm incapable of reading anything else until I get my hands on Snow and Ashes! I've been sharing the books with a friend of mine (who actually lent me the first book, so it's her fault, as much as yours) and she's only on book 3. Something about being a full time mom eating into her reading time. So not only can I not read anything else, I can't discuss them with anyone either! Till today, when I found LOL, so maybe things will change.
Thanks so much for giving me Jamie, Clare, Bree, Roger, and all the rest. Can't wait to read more!

love the books -- heather, 18:41:20 12/15/05 Thu
Diana,
I just want you to know how much i have enjoyed your books. I just finished reading all of them and found that i couldn't put them down. It was like I was obsessed with reading all of them as soon as possible. Does anyone know or can anyone answer if there are plans for another book after A Breath of Snow and Ashes? When i finished that book, i felt like I lost a member of family knowing that i didn't have another book to read after. Of course I am now considering re-reading all the books again. Thank you again, diana for writing such perfection.

Hi Diana,
Thanks to my sister jo who lives in spain i have been hooked on your books about jamie and claire and all of the other brilliant characters.I have recently bought a breath of snow and ashes a copy for my self and one for my sister, our other sister has also become hooked on them. So you now have three more ladies to add to the rest.Thank you for giving us something to lighten the dark winter nights.I do hope that if they make the mini series that they do not spoil the originality of it,as sometimes happens when a film is made.I must admit that I am a bit concerned who they will get to play them.Who ever play jamie will need to be very strong without going over the top.Any way love them.
Pauline.

- Wow -- Mel, 20:36:33 11/09/05 Wed
First of all, I have to say that wow is the only thing that comes to my mind when I think about your books...Such a delight, I read them in only a couple of days (and that makes me read them over and over again).
Also, on that post about Sonia Marmen and plagiarism...I'm actually reading those books and she did not plagiarize anything. Yes, it takes place in Scotland, yes, there are love stories and battles and wars and blood and Highlanders and bloody Sassenachs, but my opinion is that both authors got inspired by the highly interesting history of Scotland. Those people went through a lot, they are proud and, in my humble opinion, make great characters for novels (heck, I married a Scots!)
Anyways, Tapadh Leat Diana!

The whole series -- Carron Scott, 01:35:44 10/11/05 Tue
Hi Diana
I am the lady in the UK with the Dog Called Brianna Lady of Lallybroch. I think the new book is fantastic. I want you to know that your books are the best books I have ever read and I read alot. Recently I have read Dan Brown and J K Rowling, however your stories are absorbing, you do not just read but become part of the story. I have the abridged CDs I could not afford the Unabridged ones. I had to order them from US as they are not available in the UK. Thank you for bringing years of happiness in being able to read and now listern to the books. Thank you so much.

- unabridged audio -- Gail Wurmstein, 19:21:23 09/28/05 Wed
Ive been a fan of the Outlander series for a loong time. Each time a new book has come out I have reread all the previous books to refresh my memory about details. My vision isn't what it used to be so I have shifted to audio books for my "reading for pleasure". I abhor abridged books. If an author has gone to the trouble to write a book it deserves to be read in it's entirity. I can't find the books of the "Outlander" series in unabridged audio except for "A breath of Snow and ashes". Do they exist or must I stop reading and rereading my favorite series?

- Diana, it's fairly late at night, so you'll forgive my ravings, but I do hope that a movie or mini series does not materialise from your books. I'm afraid no person on earth could live up to my (at least physical) expectations of Jamie. Everyone has their own idea of Jamie, and I can't see an actor filling that role to everyone's liking.
