Ramon,
A good Boerboel can become an excellent personal protection dog. While many Boerboels (and most Boerboel owners) are not geared for Schutzhund work, some could obviously do it and do it well. Boerboels are touted for their defensive drive, but some have good prey, and can make terrible fight on a man when pushed. Boerboels are normally steady and reliable, easy around strangers, not too dog aggressive, and take training well.
