Subject: Vet saying my boerboel puppy is over weight.?

First, I must admit I had never heard of the breed before. Our 20 year old son brought home the most beautiful 4 month old puppy I've ever seen. We took him to the vet for his shots and other things...She told us that she feels he is over weight. Sherman is 6 months old now, and weighs 97 pounds. I am feeding him 2 cups of food, 3 times a day. He is on the premium edge brand. Any thoughts? I know of no other boerboels in the area to compare to. Our vet is not familiar with the breed. She has Great Danes. Thank you
