I am returning your inquiry about your supposedly overweight puppy, I have a 6month old female boerboel as well, she is weighing in at 62lbs.My veterinarian (who also has never seen a boerboel) is thrilled with learning about her at the same time i am. My suggestion is that you either talk to the breeder he came from to see how large mom and dad are to get some idea of what to expect with your baby, or find a new vet. You cannot judge Great Danes and Boerboels by any means, that is ridiculous! The only question that comes to my mind is the dog food that you have him on is hopefully NOT puppy food but ADOLESCENTS FOOD! This might be one reason if he is overweight. I had asked what the proper weight of my baby girl roughly should be and was told by the breeder that you should be able to see the outline of the last rib(floating rib) when they are standing relaxed. Hope that helps.
