The "holding the mouth shut and saying no" is ok, but use it sparingly, again, they will learn that even negative attention is attention.
Think of the leash as a handle more so than a "leash", it gives you something to grab onto that isnt wiggling and even when you are on the floor with her you can still pull it taught opposite of the direction she is lunging and she will get the idea of restriction. When she heals you should pull the leash tight enough so she is not so close to you rpant leg and pull her away if she tries to nip. Timing is crucial because their attention span is sooooo short, so be consistant, firm, not to scouring and confident. A pup needs a confident leader. Train her in short lessons so she gets the point and its not a battle and not a "game". Remember to reward her with ANY good or desired behavior, even when you dont ask for it....
I have a pup who was what i thought "out to get me" and was so intelligent and took some time to break out of bad habits, but I have learned so much from him a feel that I can handle any pup after him. You just have to know how to beat them to it... have fun JO
