I don't think that training collars are necessary at such a young age. I think that working on healing and watching you while walking is the most important thing you should teach your pup. A gentle tug on a nylon collar and re-direction is all you should need for correction right now. I am a Veterinary Technician and see so many of our clients put choke collars on their dogs and leave them on all the time. This actually desensitizes them to the purpose of the choke. The snaping of the chains and the pinch is suppose to get their attention for correction purposes. And if they become use to that at such a young age and really need to rely on one for training, your dog wont respond as well. There are many different types of training collars and dont recommend one over the other, it all depends on the character or your dog. For instance, my male American Pit Bull Terrier has a very strong prey drive, I need to use a Halti collar on him to control his head in a manner that is not going to fuel an aggressive correction. using a choke or prong collar on his neck is an aggressive approach in the dogs world. Applying pressure or pain to the scruff of a dog mean that they are being attacked or dominated aggresively. And he actual;y acts up even more when I use the prong collar. Presure to the muzzle( from the halti) means, "you need to pay attention because a higher authority wants you to". Hence the reason you shut the mouth of your pup and say "NO". Dont get me wrong, but there is always a place for correction collars but I think most importantly what most dog owners forget is that they need to build a relationship with their dog and become the leader in ever situation. Once you have done that, training should be that much easier.
