Subject: I’ve sometimes wondered about all this. William's parentage was cause for some speculation and therefore gossip in the neighbourhood. Did he really, deep down have no clue that his legal father was not his biological father? He must have heard some whispering at some point. Of course, even if he knew for sure, the Scots groom would never occur to him.

[> [> I think he did hear it from the servants, not that he was Jamie's, certainly the daughter of a baron would not lay with a groom. But the servants at Ellesmere certainly knew the child wasn't the old earl's. The sheets were unstained after the wedding night and he cut up fiercely after finding out Geneva was pregnant. -- kgp, Fri, October 22 2021, 6:19:37
