The following quote is from Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone by Diana Gabaldon, chapter 2, “A Blue Wine Day.” Copyright 2021 by Diana Gabaldon, all rights reserved.

“‘We never thought we should see ye again,’ he whispered into her hair, his own voice choked. ‘Never, a leannan. I was afraid—so afraid ye hadna reached safety, that…ye’d died, all of ye, lost in—in there. And we’d never know.’
‘We couldn’t tell you.’ She lifted her head from his shoulder and wiped her nose on the back of her hand. ‘But you could tell us. Those letters…knowing you were alive. I mean…’ She stopped suddenly and, blinking away the last of the tears, saw Jamie look away, blinking back his own.
‘But we weren’t,’ he said softly. ‘We were dead. When ye read those letters.’
‘No, you weren’t,’ she said fiercely, gripping his hand. ‘I wouldn’t read the letters all at once. I spaced them out—because as long as there were still unopened letters…you were still alive.’
‘None of it matters, lass,’ he said at last, very softly. He raised her hand and kissed her knuckles, his breath warm and light on her skin. ‘Ye’re here. So are we. Nothing else matters at all.’”

[> I don't think I could have waited to read all the letters. But once Jem was missing they read them all. So now they know bits about the immediate future that J and C don't? Awkward! -- kgp, Tue, October 11 2022, 7:36:54

[> [> I thought the same - they did read all of the letters. What do they know from them, and what might change because they have gone back? I'd expect that the last tells when one or the other (maybe both) die, and how.>>>> -- Kel, Tue, October 11 2022, 17:01:31

To be honest, I was a little disappointed in the lack of story regarding their return. I was hoping for Jenny's reaction in seeing Roger, or them taking about it.
Also, how to talk to people about where (when!!) they've been. They didn't write home as might be expected if they were actually in "Boston".
How do the kids cope with going back? Mandy was so young when they left, she has no memory, so keeping quiet about modern times might be interesting, but we never really hear about that.
Plus, Bree's pregnancy sort of was - oh, she's pregnant, baby is born. And with all family there, they hadn't thought of any names for 9 months? It will be interesting if Davy can travel.
On the other hand - Amy's story was heartbreaking and such powerful writing. I enjoyed WIlliam and Bree coming to a relationship as siblings.

[> [> [> I've listened to it several times now. Roger and Jamie talk before Roger sees Jenny again and it's heart breaking when he tells Jamie the he and Bri know everything about Wentworth Prison. Jamie talks to Jenny first and then she meets Roger, again. -- kgp, Wed, October 12 2022, 8:02:22

[> I can’t keep a lot of it straight now, there’s SO much depth of the story and characters. But I never get tired of it. I love QOTD because it helps me recall all these special moments. Up until Fiery Cross I almost memorized dialogue- lol - but after that I get forgetful. Kel, you make a lot of good points, it’s so enjoyable to me to discuss these books. -- Kathy in PA, Wed, October 12 2022, 9:04:58
