Thank you for creating a discussion group for those that aren't codependent on TV. I found a link to your discussion board on turnoffyourtv.com (which I occasionally turn to for assurance that there is at least one other person out there that recognizes how degrading and violent tv can be). I've been tv-free for approx 17 years.

Personally, I find tv extremely boring and can't imagine having so much expendable time in my life that I would want to donate it to something so mindless & offensive. I think women have taken a giant step backwards in society through the medias ever present portrayal of them as objects. Hollywood appears to be raising a whole generation of girls on the idea that for a woman to be successful and admired in life she should disrobe as much as possible. Isn't that what all of the popular actresses and musicians (Brittany Spears, etc) do on tv and in the movies?

Also, should we find it surprising that children shoot each other without thinking twice about it? They see it all the time on tv. Cool guys with tatoos, muscles, and a cigarette in mouth shoot people on tv. What they don't see is reality of life behind bars afterwards or the mourning that a family goes through as a result of such actions. If tv ever tried to portray this, I'm sure they would give it about 10 seconds at most.
