I hadn't thought of it from that angle, I guess advertising is a huge element that is considered in sports.

I'm into cycling a little, it's such a different sport, mostly a European thing though certainly not exclusively. I think it's great. The riders still make a decent amount especially the better ones, but not nearly that of say football players. There's the sense that they're there for the fun of it, crowds of people line the roads cheering them on. I think there is still a bit of a tendency to do things to make the sponsors happy, like if you can't win a race try to show off in some other way. The French rider Laurent Jalabert road in a very flashy way in 2002 Tour De France giving him the lesser title of King of the Mountains, though he didn't stand a chance of winning the race overall. On the last day he was riding a new bicycle that his sponsors gave him and painted on the side it said "Thanks Jaja." (Jaja is his nick-name)
