If you find out what it is, please let me know. My horse also has a swelling in his sheath--not a foot long, though. It is also firm and doesn't seem to hurt him, either. It has been there about 6 months now.
The vet put him on antibiotics for about 1 month and it was very expensive. It doesn't seem to be affecting him in any way.
