Subject: A Violent Death...

that we're all trying to understand... Perhaps you can shed some light. A friend of mine recently bought a 19 year old gelding - an amazing barrel horse! We were at a lesson last night, and the horse was tearing up the arena as usual. He's the picture of health and strength. She came off the last cone, and was doing a slow lope back to the front of the arena when the horse stumbled to its front knees, and quickly recovered. No-one thought much of anything about it. About 2 minutes later, he started to shake, and stumble sideways, eventually running into the fence where the rider was able to dismount safely... thankfully. He went down and began what looked like siezures. We were able to get the saddle off quickly, and tried to get the horse back to his feet - to no avail. He started to bleed from the nose quite badly, and moments later he was dead. From the first stumble to the end wasn't more than 5 minutes. Everyone thought he was the picture of health, with no know problems what-so-ever. What in the world could have happened. This has left the poor gal that owns him crushed to say the least. He was the vessel that was allowing her to acheive all of her dreams. We all feel so badly... what could have happened?????
