Subject: PLEASE HELP!!! Why does my horse eat mud????????????

I have a 20 year old Arabian Gelding. He is a great horse, is up to date on all of his shots, and is in perfect health. The only thing odd that I notice about him is that when I take him out to graze he will eat the grass and then lick the mud and eat it. I provide him with 2 pads of hay (2 in the AM 2 in the PM) and have him on Super HOrse performance 10. HE has a mineral block and plenty of clean water to drink, what could be causing him to eat mud???
