Yellow Eye Discharge??

Yeah, I went to see this horse today with my mom and she is looking to buy it, but I noticed that is has a thick yellow discharge coming from its eye, what is that all about? Can someone help me? I have never seen that before and I have 4 horses of my own and have never had that problem. Is it something serious?
