Does this mean that our meetings will take on a more somber air? Will this eventually lead to -dare I say- a more Trek-like fan base? Will members begin 'shhhsh-ing' each other during screenings (rewind button, what's that?)? What will the fan community think?? Will they furrow their prosthetic klingon brows and pound their leather and chain covered breast plates, Ka-PLA!?
One of the things that makes/made Who (now dubbed classic who)so special and attainable to the minds of it's fan base is the production itself!. The ability to see above and beyond the trappings of low budget production (just open your eyes a bit and there you are), to be able to reach out and throttle the plot in your own two hands, it's either sheer production genius, sheer coincidence, or perhaps because the show was originally written for children and is fairly simple as a mater of design.....nah....it's GENIUS I SAY!
The new series will most definitely have a different impact. With it's sugar daddy budget and posh production processes, 'Doctor New' will be a departure from our comfortable old chairs and into a world of 'what was that?' and 'did you get that part?'. Many nights will be spent pouring over the recordings and the internet postings to help decipher the ongoing saga and to follow the continuing production of the show. The BBC is even teaming a documentary 'behind the scenes' show to run in tandem with the series. This will no doubt illustrate how devilishly clever and smashingly dashing they are and show us a little of the man behind the curtain....oh, no wait, it's still shaped like an old school police box. Hmmm...will he ever get that thing fixed? Even for the new series??
Enough rambling, I am looking forward to it and hope it fairs better than the Trek enterprise...(ha...no pun intended)
