Subject: Ian and William

Hi I am a huge fan of Jamie and Claire and all of the Outlander books. I was wondering why Ian was calling William "Cousin" when he found William in the swamp. Did I miss something in the last book? Maybe I read it far too quickly. I usually read the previous book before I read the new one, but I didn't this time.Perhaps I should have. I don't remember Claire fixing Lord John's head with sixpence either.?? Can anyone remind me what I missed and what chaper it would be in the last book? I am about half way though the book right now. I wish there had been some maps, I love Maps,I will have to get out my map of the Eastern U.S. to see where they are.

Stop reading Echo and go back to Voyager. You have to start there for a full explaination.

Jamie is Ian's uncle, William is Jamie's son, that makes Ian and William cousins.

Ian implied that William was a relative to his indian friends in order to protect him. William played along. I think that this reason was alluded to by the author as well.

[> I think the Lord John bit was a small boo-boo of the sort that sneaks in every so often. On the last page of Chapter 63 of DOA, Claire is talking to Lord John after she and Jamie return from the Mohawk town where they left Ian. She says "Brianna says that Dr. Fentiman trephined your skull." Then asks if she can examine it because she's never seen a trepanation. ( This is after Lord John is injured when Stephen Bonnet escapes from the explosion in the warehouse near Cross Creek. -- Margaret D., 19:03:16 02/01/10 Mon
