Hi,

I teach heel by starting off stationary and rewarding the dog for the correct position and eye contact. Once the dog is volunteering the position,I put it on command. Once that's solid, take a couple of steps forward, rewarding for maintaining the position. It's so easy. If you clicker train it takes no time at all.

You can see a short clip of me fooling around with eye contact heelwork with my boy, all 180lbs+ /85kg of him here:



We're turning tight circles because I took the clip to send to a friend post a discussion about how dominant dogs reacted to the handler turning in on them.

Unless I'm in a class,I keep training sessions very short and sweet. IMO your pup should want to train, it should be as much fun as playing. I also use food rewards....
