You are completely RIGHT! That is, and was, my point, in essence.

First, any breed seeking AKC registry must have a breed club to function as a parent club for the breed. AKC will not accept a breed into full AKC status without a parent club.

This very breed club should be the one who supports and encourages their fellow breeders to remove the weak from their lines through spaying and neutering, as well it would be the clubs responsibility to guide AKC and it's judges into understanding the BB breed and how to judge it correctly.

A breed club should devise pictorial education manuals that are distributed to ALL AKC judges, that states the African standard and has several photos of many dogs demonstrating correct breed type.

The breed club should have their members write up what they want the breed standard to be for AKC, and work with AKC to see that very few changes are made to what is the final draft accepted as the breeders AKC standard.

The breed club should also work with AKC to hold MANY non licensed "fun matches" after AKC shows... which is COMPLETELY allowed for in AKC rules, and have FSS breeds, such as the BB, come and attend and have their judges go over them.
Hands on education for judges is the single most important way to MAKE sure that the breed is not changed or doesn't deviate from the stated African standard.

Secondly, it is then up to the breeders to be ethical and keep paperwork on the up and up, as well as promote their dogs in working events as well as conformation events so the breed can maintain working ability along with breed type.

There should be a yearly dues paying members club, where all members are bound by a signed Code of Ethics (COE) and a set of By-Laws.

It should be up to the club to have a COE's that everyone is to follow which states basic care of dogs and ages of breeding as well as proper sportsmanship, and if the COE's is not followed, then it is up to the club to refuse future member enrollment within the club.

So right now, my idea of the proper AKC parent club for the breed would be the USBA, as there is already a registry and many people involved in the USBA who want to see the breed advance in the proper way.

But if USBA does not step up, then another club will seek this status at some point and will run with it.

I know from the Dogue de Bordeaux breed that often the refusal to participate in AKC advancement has nothing truly to do with anything other than many people's hurt pride and their inability to let go of the past, and proceed into the future.

In the end, those hard-headed people get left behind, as do their dogs. And my point is, it doesn't have to be that way.
Have your say, no matter who you are, and make a difference in the future of the breed.

The BB IS gonna go AKC at some point.... so why not be a part of it STARTING NOW and have some influence in what direction the breed takes getting there, and how they are judged once they get there!

There's no point is yelling about what you think might happen or how you don't like this or that, if you haven't fully and honestly tried to get involved and make a difference and bring an outcome from it that will honestly take the breed to new heights that everyone will appreciate.

Basically, put up or shut up, as they say..LOL.

Michelle
