I remember the big stink about the Petland thing. And I was upset about it too.
The AKC also wanted to make it that if you showed in AKC you could show nowhere else. And they wanted to make it that if a judge judged in AKC, they would not be able to judge for any other associations.
But the people who PAY THEIR BILLS, which are the dog owners, put their foot down, and it never happened.

So what matters is what you'll stand for, and what you'll let them, or any other organization, get away with.

Believe me, I know as well as anyone that AKC is a corporation, and they are in business for money.

But in order to make that money and continue on, they have to comply with the wishes of their patrons. If they do not, they will lose business.
And in these economic times, AKC seems to be realizing this.

However, AKC can help and has helped many other breeds to better their breed and bring breeders to a higher ethical calling.

AKC is far from perfect. No registry is. That's why there needs to be a strong parent club for each breed to help keep both ends of the scale even.

Either way, going forward in a breed brings improvement. AKC, even with their imperfections, is still a grand step up for the BB breed.
