Again, it all comes down to THE BREEDERS. AKC doesn't change the breed, breeders do.
AKC is only "the creme of the crop" way to exhibit and promote your dogs, as well as begin and maintain reliable DNA stats for this breed.

AKC has it flaws... well, so does our US government, but are you going to leave the country because of that? Not likely.

My point is, there IS alot of good to be had in AKC recognition. They're not a perfect system, but they're better than anything else out there, and they do have a track record of improving pedigree reliablity and ensuring reliable parentage of pups.
I never said AKC was perfect.
But refusing to be part of changing the future in AKC, and in particular, the future of the breed you love in AKC, will not make a difference.
You have to be part of the solution instead of crying there is a problem.

AKC will only do what is allowed of them or what they think is expected of them.

I don't think any descent minded person supports puppymills, and I don't think that was the idea in AKC's deal with Petland. I think it was an attempt of trying to bring puppymills to become accountable and possible even an attempt at regulating them.

I don't know, so I won't speculate beyond that.

But, I can tell you, because of my other breed and I have PERSONALLY been down this AKC road before and heard all the things you are now saying... and I even said them myself.... I DO speak from experience, and I can tell you that regardless of all the qualms you may have, AKC will help the breeds future... and in ALL avenues.

AKC doesn't do just conformation. They do everything. So if people don't want to do conformation... wonderful... don't do it. Pick one of many other avenues AKC offers. Don't use conformation as the crutch to turn your back on the issue, because there's much more to it than that.

It's your choice. Be a part of the forward advancement and have a voice, or don't at all... but the final outcome cannot be complained about if you don't jump on the train and help guide in the journey.

If you don't get on and help steer, you essentially are just giving them all the control.

Why do that?

Get on the train and make the final destination one you will appreciate, and can live with.
