It's nothing personal Michelle.. working folks & show folks will pretty much always have this argument. Until a show person from a "working breed" owns the working-bred dog of their breed, they can not understand the difference IME. They assume that the show-bred dog "can do it too", they just look nicer. "It" referring to whatever job the breed is known for. This line of thinking has always been perplexing to me.. if a breeding dog isn't tested & selected on its working merit, who in the world can show folks expect to produce puppies capable of what their parents aren't?!? -It makes as much sense as expecting to use an English Bulldog as a duck retriever, just because you believe he'll pull the ability out of his @ss b/c you want him to.. he CAN'T!

"I didn't write the standard for the Dogue de Bordeaux, it's the FCI european standard, so if you have a problem with the standard, contact Raymond Triquet in France, as he was the last person to re-write it. Complaining to me about it means nothing because I am not the writer of the breed standard."
But you abide by it, breed for it, yes? You support it?

"The NABF is a club that works to include ALL arenas for the Dogue de Bordeaux breed... working, showing, rescue work, tracking, weight pull... you name it. It's multi-faceted. And all the members participate in ALL these arenas."
Since "all the members participate in" "working, showing, rescue work, tracking, weight pull... you name it", I'd like to see your titles, videos, pictures, etc of all your DDBs participating in these things, please? Oh! And the video I asked for of a DDB showing "he is calm and balanced with a high stimulus threshold".

The "gift of guarding" is proven through a *TAN*!? -Please! At least I would've expected the Character Test! Bill has been the certifying decoy for MANY TAN tests, until he quit doing them out of total disgust. All a dog has to be able to do to pass a TAN is bark, even if s/he's COWERING behind its owner's legs!
This is the kind of crap that passes: http://video.aol.com/video-detail/dds-temperament-test/2435957429
http://video.aol.com/video-detail/lewanika-temperament-tests-ikimba-yebo-zazu/2114034140
Obviously, these are RR & it isn't a TAN, but the dog's reactions are often the same: "HELP! SAVE ME MOMMY! I'm going to hide behind you, & YOU get'em!"

"The Dogue de Bordeaux is also not a fighting dog like it once was." >snip< "As to a dogue de bordeaux not being able to perform any duties because it's muzzle is too short, funny, but my 7 yr old 110 pound 24 inch tall French import male Dogue de Bordeaux recently ripped a new a$$ on my 150 pound 29 inch tall male Boerboel, and the BB was completely and utterly clueless, and clearly at the mercy of the dogue. The Boerboel had not an inkling of how to fight back & protect himself from a shorter, quicker and more "fighting savvy" dog. The dogue de bordeaux had him down, drug him across the yard by his scruff and if I hadn't goten out there, probably would have killed him. My boerboel had to go in for major surgery to his front leg, as his muscle and artery were badly damaged and nearly severed."
Ummm I thought we were talking about the "Gift of Guarding", not dog-fighting, which you said the DDBs is "also not a fighting dog like it once was." I'm a little confused at what sounds like bragging about how your DDB "ripped a new a$$" on your BB. A dogs' ability to fight dogs & its ability to fight people (i.e. "Guarding") have nothing to do with one another.

"I don't know anything about the Bouvier, nor do I care to, so I cannot make an assumption on what is correct or not correct, and cannot apply any similarity between that breed and the Dogue de Bordeaux, or the Boerboel."
The similarity is the destruction of the dogs' working characteristics & form that allowed them to perform their task.

"So I would say yes, a Dogue de Bordeaux is still well suited and quite capeable of doing the same job as the dog you have pictured. At least mine are."
Which dog..? The Bouvier pictured at the bottom??

I'm looking forward to having my requests from the 1st e-mail "dealt with" before we open any new cans of worms. I'm glad you're trying to breed dogs that aren't overdone & can't breath. >=^)
