Hi Tashi,

I know you did not mean anything personally. You are like me in you say things as blatent as possible to get the point across, and it sometimes seems pi$$y when it truly isn't, just to the point.

****Since "all the members participate in" "working, showing, rescue work, tracking, weight pull... you name it", I'd like to see your titles, videos, pictures, etc of all your DDBs participating in these things, please? Oh! And the video I asked for of a DDB showing "he is calm and balanced with a high stimulus threshold".****

There are many photos of a dogue I bred who is currently the first and ONLY weight pull Champion DDB in UKC, and I believe is the only weight pull Champion DDB in the USA.
You can see the dogue here: http://www.geocities.com/redknightsddb

The dogue is named Sarabi.

This is what I encourage. I may be cut from a different cloth than some, but I believe with hard work, you can maintain a working dog that looks like it's supposed to, so it can compete on many different plateau's. It's not impossible.

I know that the SABD in France had archived videos of dogues doing bite work and schutzhund as well as being TAN tested.

In Canada there are several dogues who have water rescue titles... yes, water rescue! as well as search & rescue titles.

I have sold dogues to police before who have used them as drug sniffing dogs (one was in FL) and another dogue I sold was used to apprehend fleeing suspects.
Both dogues did wonderful! Both dogs have now passed on, but both were true working dogues, and actually LOOKED like the breed should.

Another member of the NABF is doing Obedience, tracking and water sports with her dogues.
And this is what sets the NABF members apart, because we are a group of folks who are actively working to hit all facets of the working & showing world.

****mmm I thought we were talking about the "Gift of Guarding", not dog-fighting, which you said the DDBs is "also not a fighting dog like it once was." I'm a little confused at what sounds like bragging about how your DDB "ripped a new a$$" on your BB. A dogs' ability to fight dogs & its ability to fight people (i.e. "Guarding") have nothing to do with one another.****

No, my point was to show that a DDB can still perform the duties it was bred for. Some of that IS subduing other dogs. Since this was a part of WHAT the DDB was bred for, this would have to be considered under working ability and natural instincts.
They have the ability to get another dog down quickly, then they use their jaws to hold their prey. They also use their shorter stature to fenagle themselves around animals taller than them (in this case, my male BB) and take them out at the legs. Which, my male DDB did quite well.
My male DDB is a UKC Grand Champion show dog, but has the physical abilities and the instincts to be a terrific guardian and working dog.
Just to clarify, my male BB is no wuss. He was just out-foxed by my shorter, quicker and more serious minded DDB.
Now put my male BB against a taller, heavier, slower dogue de bordeaux, and the outcome may be very different.

And yes, I am HUGE on not breeding dogs of any breed to be oversized. The bigger and bigger you get them, the slower they become and the shorter their lifespans.

I also HATE poor movement. One thing I hate more than anything is to see a nice looking dog who moves like crap. And the really big dogs often move like lumberwagons.

If the dog rhasps or moved like crap, it's worthless... in any breed.

It needs to be a balance of everything to make the best dog.

Michelle
