(KTVI - myFOXstl.com) -- News Release From The St. Charles County Humane Services Division:

A 59-year-old man was attacked and mauled by his 100-pound dog Wednesday morning at his residence in the 100 block of Stealy Road in unincorporated St. Charles County near Wentzville.

A neighbor who witnessed the attack called 911 and the St. Charles County Sheriff's Department responded. The dog, an African Mastiff Boerboel, was put into a garage. Paramedics were called to the scene and the man, Charles Paul Dees, was taken to St. Joseph Hospital West.

He suffered extensive wounds to left arm, back and legs. When the St. Charles County Animal Control officers reached the scene, the dog was in the garage with two other large dogs. The dog that attacked the man was agitated and vicious, according to the animal control officers, so it was tranquilized.

All three dogs were taken to the Humane Services center. Theresa Williams, division director, said the two other dogs, a Pyreneese/Collie mix and a lab-retriever/Newfoundland mix, were no problem, but they were worried about them being penned up in the hot garage.

The attack dog will be quarantined for 10 days, Williams said, and county authorities will ask the owner to turn it over to the Humane Services department. If that doesn't happen, Williams said, she will arrange an emergency administrative hearing to declare the dog a dangerous animal.

The other two dogs will be released to the owners, Williams said.
