This type of training is touchy and can make an unstable dog go off the deep end, especially Mastiff breeds who are hardwired to be protectors to bgin with. With some dogs, you can make them a "hot button" dog, and then they can be very scary".

Your above is indeed stunning for someone who says she has been breeding dog for 15 years. Moreover I didn’t know you were so proficient with protection training and the results of same. Next there is no such thing a hardwired trait, especially in the Boerboel, because it is too mixed and too new. Moreover the only way any trait can be maintained is by having it selected by work or training and then breeding to a like example on an ongoing basis. Ongoing doesn’t mean every once and a while but for every breeding, there is no other way. This has not happened in the Boerboel. The only trait that has been consistently selected on an ongoing basis, is beauty.

“most dogs who attack are abused”.

Is that your opinion or do you have some facts, other than you work at rescue, to validate that claim. If what I read from our contributors and in the newspaper there are many aggressive unstable Boerboel’s many of which have not been abused. Could weak temperament, which is prevalent in the Boerboel, play a part? i.e., fear bitter. I feel the same way about breeding abuse as you do about animal abuse. I see them one in the same. Norman
