Water down the BB? How is that possible when the BB is not an aggressive breed and was not bred for fighting to begin with?
You have to understand the clear differences between certain breeds before you can speak knowledgeably about anyone's breeding practices.

The DDB was originally bred to be a fighting breed - a very vicious, hot, tenacious fighting dog. Their sole reason for being bred was for bloodsport - and they excelled at it in ancient times.
They were the gold standard in pit fighting, and had a jaw like a steel trap and could quickly and easily subdue and kill their opponent.
The DDB was in ancient times, bred to be vicious... to pack up with other dogues and frenzy in a pit fighting ring, and take down bears, jaguars & etc.
Therefore, there still is to this day (although to a greatly lesser degree), that fighting and attacking mentality (between animals) in the breed, and although it has been greatly softened, it can still crop up some... and that is why the DDB scared me with all their fighting they did when I first got into the breed.
And I vowed to soften that yet even more and to try to breed it out as much as possible to make a more reliable family companion.
The reason is that most of the breeds originally created for the sole purpose of bloodsport have always been those whose temperament can sometimes be more prone to going from animal aggression to human aggression, and I did not want that.

However, with the BB, they did not have the same bloody history in their creation as the DDB.
Therefore, the same concern for me with the DDB, is not there with the BB.
Everything I see in most BB's is very stable temperaments, where they are very reliable, and know the difference between friend & foe and I do not have to worry about the same things with them as I did the DDB's.

You, Dan, do not know anything about the DDB breed and therefore cannot judge my breeding practices there, nor apply them to the BB.

My daughter breeds Chihuahua's and I help her with that... will you then say that we are breeding for the same things in Chi's as BB's and DDB's? LOL.
I mean seriously... you have got to be smart enough to see that every breed is bred for different things, and each breed commands different breeding goals and different ideals.
In the long run, I have done the DDB a great service.

As to the BB, I plan to not change anything. I like the breed as it is.
However, I am very concerned with the temperament issues that many are saying are not being seen in the breed.

For anyone who loves the breed, would this NOT concern you?

There are too many breeds on breed ban lists... and I am sure I speak for everyone when I say that the BB is not a breed we want to see showing up on those bans.

So as I said before, I have pure intentions here with the BB.
All I want to do is offer some form of a database for those folks who are concerned about temperament issues, so they can come and investigate lines if they so choose.

Michelle
