Hi Tracy,
The DDB was only used as a flock guardian years after the sport of pit fighting was banned. It's sole original purpose in creation was for bloodpsort.
Once this horrible sport was banned, then people began to breed them to have a softer nature and then used them for flock guarding, cart pulling and home guarding.

Since Pit fighting with the DDB was banned, breeders have actively bred down the temperament.
A vicious, attack dog temperament was not needed nor wanted, and therefore, in order to bring reliablity to the breeds temperament, as well as prevent the DDB from being deemed a menace breed... and to show it could be useful, breeders HAD to dilute down the temperament.

I do agree that many DDB's have very few viable working characteristics. Some do. I personally have produced some who have done weight pull, do police work as well as water rescue... but, I have also produced several who have achieve Therapy Dog titles, and are know to have some very doscile temperaments.
So I've proven through my DDB's that it is possible to have good temperaments and still have some drive to work & etc.

The ideal dog is to have one who can have the instincts to protect, and still be stable.
However, in some breeds, this is hard to achieve, and then the dog can still be at risk of becoming the next dog banned due to a dog acting out inappropriately.

I have no plans to change the BB. They don't have the same temperament, nor the same history as that of the DDB.
I think the BB is miles ahead of the DDB in regard to temperament reliablity. And my goal is to try to retain that as much as possible.

The criticism that others are giving me, trying to apply my breeding practices with the DDB to the BB, are misguided.
As I said, every breed is different, and you must have different ideals and different goals for every breed, as each breed was created for something different.

Michelle
