I had the same issue with my male Boerboel last year, and after numerous tests at the vet to eliminate other potential causes..they concluded he had alopecia...basically balding. Can be permanent, but typically grows back. It can happen if a dog does not get as much sunlight as needed. Usually happens when there is less light in the day, such as in the winter time. I would certainly have the vet check, but it may be a case of alopecia. Hope I spelled it right. You can email to discuss further. Good luck
