You can counteract seasonal flank alopecia with daily doses of melatonin. Melatonin is sold in any vitamin store, and is used commonly for humans having problems with sleeplessness.

Melatonin is not a sedative... it's an herbal rememdy, but helps balance out melatonin imbalances within the brain during months of reduced sunlight, when these imbalances tend to take place.
Lack of this key element within the brain can cause irritability, loss of hair, inability to fall asleep and stay asleep as well as weight gain.
I've had that happen in dogs I've owned over the years, and the supplement does work!

The key is, you must give it religously, daily, from Sept through March of every year. It it most effective that way.
