Hi Pam,

Imagine my suprise when I visited the board and viewed your statements regarding sport dogs and bite training. I think that, at this point, you might truly be unable to comprehend what these fine people have been telling you for years now. You simply cannot know if a dog will bite until you test for it.

Since this is a protection breed, and I fully expect this dog to protect, I could care less what color toenails it has. I wanted a short-coated, big dog that will bite if the need arises. Thanks to John Blackwell, that is precisely what I have (kudos to JH and DH too because they were involved somewhere down the line).

I don't sport train my dog, but I will start to do so soon. She's about 3.5 now and she's not only capable of doing it, but she truly loves confrontation, almost as much as she loves being with my kids.

As far as barbarity goes in out culture, we still have it in spades. Compare the murder rate in California with the death toll on American troops in Iraq. It is better to train, and be prepared for a bad situation and never have to actually use the preparation, than to try to react with a weapon that you 1. don't now how to use, and 2. don't know if it'll even work.

So, go down your garden path, enjoy smelling the roses. Hopefully, nothing ever bad happens to you. But, I truly think that you are not only deluding yourself with what you percieve your dog's capabilities to be, you are misinforming others according to your world view (which I increasingly percieve as something similar to manifest destiny---the time for that was 150 years ago).

Respectfully,

Colby
