We are a family of 5 and are really struggling. My husband had open heart surgery this summer and is just now getting back to work on a limited basis. We have 2 children (16yob & 11yog) and my mother in law who has had several strokes living with us. The home we live in, we have been renting for the past 6 years and just found out that the landlords have it up for sale and a potential buyer who would like to close soon. The rents in our area are more than double what we currently pay and we are in no position to come up with the 1st, last, security deposit that is required to rent any of them nor could we honestly afford to pay a rent that high with just my income. We are struggling at best. Christmas is coming and we have no way to purchase anything for the kids for Christmas. My income just barely pays for the necessary things (rent, electric, food, etc). Can anyone help or offer any good suggestions as to where to turn? Our local welfare office has told me that my income is too high (by $17) for help from them other than about $35 in food stamps. My husband also didn't qualify for any kind of help as the children are mine from a prior marriage and not his even though he has been their major source of support for the past 7 years.
