Subject: A new roof in winter?

I contracted for new roof back in Sept. Heavy rains and early snows have delayed the roofer. Is it better at this point to wait until warmer weather to replace roof?

Not necessarily. I can have most bigger roofs that aren't too steep done in three days or less. I can usually find long enough breaks in the weather up here in the Northwest to get work done during the winter. We probably do 40% or less in the volume of work done in DEC verses AUG. You might have one of those roofs that can be done in sections. Is it better? I would say in a scale of 1 to 100 with it best to wait till warmer weather it'd be something like 95 to have it installed now verses 100 to wait. If you had a leak I would say that it would be a 100 to have your roof installed and an 80 or less to wait. Once through it's first summer, concerning the end result and longevity of your roof it won't matter a bit. It is a matter of trust in your contractor to negotiate the weather in such a way that your house is never threatened by the elements.

Hopes this helps,
