I was shocked to read your account since it is so close to mine with a couple exceptions. First is I wore diapers and plastic pants everynight of my life with the exception of a week or so here and there to see if I could stop wetting if I didn't wear a diaper. At the age of 10 or so I became very embarrassed about still being in diapers and especially being diapered by my mother. At that time she attempted to teach me how to diaper myself but I was never able to do it without having it leak at night. Another exception was that my mother did use creams at times when I would develop a rash and everynight she rubbed powder over the entire area to be diapered, front and back and in between. It was a major production so when I was trying to diaper myself I found I missed all that attention and the sensations it caused while she was doing it. I soon got over any embarrassment in exchange for the good feelings my mother gave me when she did the diapering. I convinced her that I would accept her doing the diapering again if she would and she told me she would but that she would not diaper a boy with pubic hair and that I would have to keep myself shaved front and back. It was not hard for her to figure out I was enjoying the diapering and at the age of 14, nearly 15, after waking up dry for a week straight, she told me I no longer needed to wear diapers but that if I wanted to that I should just come to her each night with the supplies and she would continue until such a time as I decided I didn't want it anymore. I don't think it is strange for you to miss the diapers, it is more of a kind of relationship we developed with our mothers and with diapers.
